EOD 6 – Fleeing the light air blob

We’ve spent today dodging squalls and trying hard for some good mileage to outrun the light air that is forecast to fill behind us. Breeze has been good for us – 15-18 knots, so we’ve had some fast conditions for Raku. We’re switching off helming more frequently, and the breeze is expected to lighten this

EOD 5 – We lost what?

It’s been a busy day on Raku…early this morning we held a team meeting at 0130 to discuss weather and whether we should jibe. Then, we ran into another something that was really vibrating at the keel, so we took the kite down, and backed down…and successfully removed ourselves from a 6 foot piece of

EOD 4 – Smooth sailing

Today has been really pleasant so far. We’ve had the A2.5 up all day, good breeze, not too much, not too little (8-12 mostly). It was warm, but not too warm, sunny at times, but more clouds. The waves are still incredibly small, with almost no swell. Presumably, we’ll start to see some bigger swells

EOD 3 – Planes, but no planing (yet)!

Things are going well onboard Raku. We are into our offshore routines now – watch schedules have been ~2.5 hours off, and for the most part, we’re bunking in the quarterberth or in the beanbag. Earplugs do help a lot (we have a whistle on deck if the other person is really needed), and I

EOD 2 – Little Bit of Everything

Aloha! Today started out interesting. During the night we were beating slowly, due south, near Limitless when suddenly our speed slowed way down in 8 knots of wind. We figured we must have wrapped something on the keel. Fishing gear? Plastic? Who knows? It was pitch black, so no way to see anything. Long story

EOD 1 – Sunfish & Sun

It’s been a good day – we had a good start in nice breeze out through the gate. It’s been light since, but we’re doing our best to connect the dots. We did hit our first (and hopefully only) thing about an hour ago. We think it was a sunfish because we saw one just

Start and tracking info!

Our start is at 10:50am this morning. You can follow the tracker at https://yb.tl/paccup2022. Weather models look marginally better for today and tomorrow! Let’s get this started!

It’s getting real now – Ti leaves are on!

We’ve spent the weekend finishing up last minute projects, looking at weather, attending the skipper’s meeting and bon voyage party, looking at weather, topping off our water, finishing up shopping, and looking at the weather. We’re looking at the weather a lot right now – it is going to be a bit tricky to get

Getting ready for Pac Cup 2022!
