EOD 4 – Smooth sailing

July 9, 2022
Today has been really pleasant so far. We’ve had the A2.5 up all day, good breeze, not too much, not too little (8-12 mostly). It was warm, but not too warm, sunny at times, but more clouds. The waves are still incredibly small, with almost no swell. Presumably, we’ll start to see some bigger swells as we get into the trade winds? We’ve pretty much just gone in a straight line trying to thread the needle between shorter distance and staying away from that pesky light air high. Supposedly that high is going to start making its way out of here and then, in theory it might start to seem like tradewind sailing as we expect the wind speed to build overnight and we see a lot more blue sky ahead, now, not long before sunset.
The race organizers just sent out an update with 24 hour distance made for each boat. We did 203nm. Our first 200nm day. Yay! The next fastest boat out of the Monday/Tuesday starters did 168nm (Foamy, a Monday starter) and I believe we passed very close to them during the day. So that’s pretty good! I thought we might see them as we went by, you can’t see very far out here. Maybe 6 miles?
Great day for getting lots of rest and staying hydrated. We are watching the weather closely and thinking hard about what to do next, but it seems like a bit of a straight line for us for awhile.
Happy Friday!
