EOD 7 – Keepin’ on Truckin’

July 12, 2022
Today was pretty straightforward. We sailed west as fast as we could in slowly lowering wind speeds. Last night saw some great breeze and great boat speeds. We did 228nm between 3pm-3pm, which is fantastic for us and faster than all the Monday/Tuesday starters + all but one of the Thursday starters. We also had a 6-hour period were we averaged 10.6 knots. That would be over 250nm in 24 hours, if the winds stay above 13 knots. The expectation is the wind will be even lighter tomorrow (under 10 knots). Raku is totally fine with those wind speeds. The key will be that others have light winds as well. We are very happy to race our competition in 8-14 knots. Above that and the little boats can go just as fast as us and it is a lot more work, at least for us.
We see the occasional ship, 1 or 2 per day, but that is it. I think the nearest race boat is more than 50nm away.
We are well passed the halfway point in time, but not yet halfway on distance to go. That will happen midday tomorrow.
Hmmm… So yeah, a quiet day. Getting lots of rest and hoping to be very ready for the last few days, a sprint to the finish in proper tradewinds that will be more in the 16-20 knot range.
