Video – Crossing the Atlantic – The Windy Days

This is the second video, days 6-10, where we had a lot of strong breeze. Crossing the Atlantic – The Windy Days

Video – Crossing the Atlantic – First 5 Days

We shot about 8 hours of video during the crossing.  Trying to distill that down to a few watchable bits takes some time, but it is quite fun.  Since we are quite new to video editing we are taking a two-pronged approach.  First, we are making 3 or 4 short videos for the ADD types.

Snapshots from the Azores

We’re slowly getting back to our normal routines, and we took the opportunity to unplug and rest (facilitated by the broken wifi in our apartment that was just fixed) after arriving back in Spain.  We had a happy reunion with our dogs, and we’re now going through our pictures and video to share some of

Day 6B – Getting closer

We’ve used all 20 of the Trader Joe’s Almond Milks that I purchased in Annapolis, eaten all of Justin’s brownies, finally finished off the basil cheese, and we opened all of our care package goodies – so it must be time to be “there”.  As if on cue, just like the day prior to arriving

Day 5B – The analogy

There is a perfect analogy for last night.  It goes like this.  We are driving along in our Infiniti G35 on a nice open freeway, the cruise control is set on 80 mph (yeah we are speeding a little), life is good.  Night falls and unbeknownst to us the freeway ends and turns into a

Day 4B – Windy reach

We got a windshift that we anticipated earlier than expected, and ended up gybing last night in 18-20 knots – the darkness, rolly seas, sleepy offwatch person and breeze always seem to add drama to anything you do on the boat.  This morning, we furled the gennaker, and we are now on the genoa to

Day 3B – The day that nothing happened

The last 24 hours have been remarkable for the lack of anything remarkable so we will make this short.  We’ve had the trifecta of sailing.  Going fast, in the right direction, with a smooth, easy, comfortable motion.  We haven’t adjusted the sails or changed course.  The wind has been constant at 15-20 knots and we

Day 2B – Mysteries

The trip for us has been full of lessons learned, as well as interesting mysteries.  This morning, Justin found another 6-7 inch squid on our deck for me to go pick up (yes, this is the second) – it is completely logical that the flying fish would occasionally end up on our deck (we’ve had

Day 1B – And away we go….

Horta was fantastic – there is much more to see in the Azores than what we had time for.  We will be putting some pictures and video up of our amazing “scooter ’round the island’” trip.  The local cheeses and wines were lovely to taste, as well.  Yesterday, though, we spent the day getting the

Day 15 – Trying to be patient

We know that we shouldn’t look at our average speed and distance to go to figure out what speed we need to make to arrive in Horta by nightfall.  We know that we should just be happy to have a safe passage and take things as they come.  Justin and I are not exactly experts
